WITT ASSIGNED TO SOUND TIGERS

BRIDGEPORT, CT -- The New York Islanders have assigned veteran defenseman Brendan Witt to their AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the team announced Thursday.

Witt has more than 13 years of National Hockey League experience. He spent 10 years with the Washington Capitals before being traded to the Nashville Predators during the 2005-06 season. Witt signed with the Islanders during the summer of 2006 and has spent the last four years on Long Island. He has served as an assistant captain for the Islanders this year. Witt has played in over 890 NHL games and has tallied 25 goals and 96 assists for 121 career points.

The Sound Tigers are back in action Friday night when they visit the Springfield Falcons at 7:30 pm. Bridgeport is back home Saturday as the Sound Tigers host the Manchester Monarchs at 7:00 pm at the Arena at Harbor Yard. For tickets, please call TicketMaster at 1-800-745-3000.
