BRIDGEPORT, CT – The New York Islanders have recalled forwards Jesse Joensuu and Matt Martin from their AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the team announced Monday. Both players joined the club for practice Monday at the Nassau Coliseum.
This is Joensuu’s second call-up of the season. He played seven games for the Islanders during the month of December, scoring one goal. He also played in seven games last season, during which he scored one goal and had two assists. The 6’4, 207 pound Finnish winger has tallied 16 points in 18 games since returning to Bridgeport. That hot stretch has vaulted the former second round draft pick into second place on the team in scoring. Jonesuu has 11 goals and 22 assists in 46 games for Bridgeport this season.
A fifth round draft choice of the New York Islanders in 2008, Martin has played in all 53 Sound Tigers games in this, his rookie season in the American Hockey League. The 6’2, 192 pound winger has developed a reputation as one of the hardest-working players on the Bridgeport squad. He has tallied nine goals and nine assists on the season.
The Sound Tigers are back in action Friday night when they host the Worcester Sharks at 7:00 pm at Harbor Yard. After a visit to Hartford Saturday night, Bridgeport will be back home Sunday as the Sound Tigers battle the Springfield Falcons at 3:00 pm. For tickets, please call TicketMaster at 1-800-745-3000.
