(Photos) Brent visits the Sound Tigers Locker Room

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers will take on the Providence Bruins on March 6, 2010 and prior to the game, hundreds of men, women and children are expected to join the Sound Tigers in shaving their heads to support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and TeamBrent.  The event will begin at 12:30 for registration with the opening ceremonies, starting at 1 p.m.  The head shaving, sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank, will take place between 2 p.m. through 5 p.m., with help from Total Look Salons and Academy.

For the third straight season, the Sound Tigers, St. Baldrick’s Foundation and TeamBrent have teamed up to raise awareness and funds to help fight pediatric cancer.

“This has become an annual event that our team looks forward to each season,” Sound Tigers’ President, Howard Saffan said.  “The efforts of TeamBrent, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation and Newtown Saving Bank are immeasurable and the Sound Tigers are proud to partner with their efforts towards raising money for pediatric cancer to find a cure.”

TeamBrent is a group that was founded in support of one of the Sound Tigers’ biggest fans, Brent McCreesh, who was diagnosed with cancer in his central nervous system at the age of two. Since then, through the help of St. Baldrick’s Foundation, he has been able to beat his cancer and is living a healthy life now at the age of seven.  The St. Baldrick’s Foundation was formed with the effort to beat pediatric cancer and since it’s founding in 2000, the foundation has raised over $69 million by shaving over 107,000 heads in 24 different countries.

Other events include an open skate on the Sound Tiger’s ice, (participants must bring their own skates and no hockey sticks are allowed), head and face painting. There will also be kid’s activities on hand, and performances from the band, Vertigo.

Each person who pre-registers to shave their head at the event will receive one (1) free ticket to the game that evening against the Bruins.  Each person who shaves their head will have the chance to go out onto the ice during the second intermission to help with the intermission game.
