SOUND TIGERS SIGN GILLIES
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today that forward Colton Gillies has been signed to an American Hockey League contract.
Gillies, 25, was playing on a Professional Try Out for the first 25 games of the season. The White Rock, B.C., native has one goal and two assists in 20 games so far this year.
The 6-foot-4 Gillies is currently with his third team in the AHL, after playing for the Rochester Americans last year and the Houston Aeros from 2007-2011. A veteran with 232 AHL games experience, Gillies has also played for the Minnesota Wild and the Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League.
Originally a first-round pick (16th overall) in the 2007 NHL Draft to the Minnesota Wild, Gillies has the most NHL experience of any Sound Tiger with 154 games. He is the nephew of Islanders great Clark Gillies.
