Sound Tigers Donate $6,500 To Make-A-Wish
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers, proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, visited the offices of Make-A-Wish Connecticut on Thursday and humbly presented a check in the amount of $6,500.
The donation was raised through ticket sales, as well as food and beverage proceeds, from the Sound Tigers' inaugural Make-A-Wish Night on March 10 in an effort to grant future wishes for children in the state.
“We take great pride in being active in the community and working with Make-A-Wish Connecticut was certainly one of the highlights of the year for our organization,” Sound Tigers President Michael Picker said. “It was a great team effort by everyone involved and knowing that our donation makes a difference is truly rewarding.”
Leading up to the game, the Sound Tigers welcomed Sam Lopa, 11, and Caleb Desjarlais, 4, to practice at Webster Bank Arena on February 10, and signed the two young boys to professional tryout contracts that morning. It was an exciting day for the team and a small dream come true for the boys. Caleb is battling a rare white blood cell disease and Sam has a rare gastrointestinal disorder and has already gone through three life-saving surgeries. Both children recently had other wishes granted by the Make-A-Wish Foundation, going to Disney World and Sea World, respectively.
“We are so thankful for the relationship we've developed with the Sound Tigers and for their generous contribution,” said Shayna Grassi, Marketing and Communications Manager for Make-A-Wish Connecticut. “Through these wishes, a lot of children get the hope, strength and joy they need to overcome their illnesses and go on to lead full, healthy lives.”
