STROME NAMED TO 2013-14 AHL ALL-ROOKIE TEAM

The American Hockey League announced today that former Bridgeport Sound Tigers and current New York Islanders forward Ryan Strome has been named to the 2013-14 All-Rookie Team. The All-Rookie Team was voted on by AHL coaches, players and media in each of the AHL’s 30 member cities.

Strome, 20, skated in 37 games with the Sound Tigers in 2013-14 and collected 49 points (13 goals, 36 assists).  He began the season in the AHL and notched 33 points (nine goals, 24 assists) in 24 games before earning his first NHL recall on Dec. 11. At the time of his initial recall by the Islanders, Strome led all AHL rookies in scoring and was Top-5 in the league overall.

Strome was loaned back to the Sound Tigers on Jan. 15 and had 16 points (four goals, 12 assists in 13 more games with the Sound Tigers, Strome had 16 points. He was recalled once again on Feb. 24 and spent the remainder of the season with the Islanders. Though he appeared in just 37 AHL games this season, Strome’s 49 points currently rank him sixth among AHL rookies.

The New York Islanders selected Strome in the first round (fifth overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft. Prior to beginning his professional career, Strome played four seasons of junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League with both the Barrie Colts and Niagara Ice Dogs. The Mississauga, Ont., native had 295 points in 225 OHL games from before making his pro debut with the Sound Tigers at the tail-end of the 2012-13 season. Strome scored seven points (two goals, five assists) in 10 AHL games last season.
