The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (37-22-2-1), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, launched 31 shots at goaltender Zane McIntyre on Friday, but the Providence Bruins (35-18-5-4) netminder stopped each one in a 3-0 setback at Dunkin’ Donuts Center.

It was the third time the Sound Tigers have been shut out this season, which dropped the club to fifth place in the Atlantic Division standings.

BOX SCORE

Providence struck twice in the opening frame, including Jake DeBrusk’s 14th goal of the season at the 10:13 mark, to take a 1-0 lead. Colton Hargrove fed the puck to DeBrusk down the right wing where he skated through the circle and beat Jaroslav Halak with a low wrist shot from a tough angle. Hargrove and Alex Grant notched the assists.

A 5-on-3 power play helped the Bruins double their lead at the 19:00 mark. With Brant Harris and Kellen Jones each in the box for tripping, Grant set up for a slapper in the high slot and hammered a try on target that was tipped by Colby Cave for his 12th goal of the season.

Sean Kuraly capped the scoring at 18:21 of the second period when he capitalized on a 2-on-1 rush. Following a turnover at the Providence blue line, Kuraly gathered the puck and staked down the left wing, beating Halak’s glove from the circle to make it 3-0.

The Sound Tigers finished the game 0-for-3 on the power play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill. Halak (16-6-3) made 20 saves in the setback, while McIntyre (16-3-1) notched his second shutout of the season to stop a three-game losing streak.

Bridgeport outshot Providence 31-23.
