THE STORY COMING IN

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (43-24-3-1) will face the Providence Bruins (41-20-5-4) and Hartford Wolf Pack (23-41-4-2) this weekend with a chance to solidify their place in the 2017 Calder Cup Playoffs. The Sound Tigers enter the weekend on a four-game win streak and five-game point streak (4-0-1-0) following their 2-1 victory against the Springfield Thunderbirds on Tuesday. Jake Bischoff and Josh Winquist each scored for Bridgeport, while Eamon McAdam made 19 saves for his fourth straight win. The Sound Tigers are currently one point ahead of the Hershey Bears for the Atlantic Division’s final playoff spot, with one game in hand as well. Bridgeport is also just one point behind the third-place Providence Bruins. Their magic number to clinch a playoff spot is “eight” (points gained by Bridgeport or missed by the fifth place team).

DC COMICS DAY

The Sound Tigers will host DC Comics Day for their regular-season home finale this Sunday. Meet your favorite Justice League and DC Comics superheroes during the 3 p.m. matinee contest. Two special ticket packages are available that include access to the game, concession vouchers, a drawstring bag and more! CLICK HERE for tickets and more information. Doors open at 2 p.m.

TIGERS VS. BRUINS

Tonight’s game marks the 11th of 12 meetings between the Sound Tigers and Bruins this season, and the sixth and final matchup in Rhode Island. Bridgeport leads the series 6-4-0-0, but suffered a 3-0 loss in Providence in their last head-to-head tilt on Mar. 17. Zane McIntyre recorded a 31-save shutout that evening, while Jake DeBrusk, Colby Cave and Sean Kuraly all scored for the P-Bruins. Bridgeport last defeated Providence on Mar. 7 with a 5-3 at Webster Bank Arena, in which Carter Verhaeghe scored twice. The Sound Tigers are 2-3-0-0 at Dunkin’ Donuts Center this season. Saturday’s game in Bridgeport will mark the series finale.

VIEW FROM PROVIDENCE

Kevin Dean’s club has won five of its last six games including a 4-1 victory over Hartford in its last outing on Sunday. Four different skaters found the back of the net that afternoon, while Zane McIntyre turned back 23 shots for his team-leading 20th win of the season. Still, the P-Bruins hold third place in the Atlantic Division standings by just one point over Bridgeport, and the club is also two points behind second-place Lehigh Valley. Jordan Szwarz has scored in three straight games (four goals total over that span) and now leads Providence in goals (21) and points (52). In addition, Alex Grant ranks second among all AHL defensemen in goals (17) and is tied for fifth in points (46).

TIGERS VS. WOLF PACK

Sunday’s matinee will mark the eighth and final meeting between the Sound Tigers and Wolf Pack this season, and the fourth of four matchups at Webster Bank Arena. Bridgeport leads the series 5-2-0-0, but suffered a 4-3 setback at the XL Center in their last meeting on Mar. 25, in which Andrew Rowe scored twice and Kellen Jones added his fifth tally of the season. Bridgeport is 2-1-0-0 against Hartford at Webster Bank Arena this season.

VIEW FROM HARTFORD

The Wolf Pack enter this weekend’s action on a two-game slide and just 2-7-1-0 over their last 10 games. In addition, Hartford continues to maintain the basement of the Eastern Conference standings. Last time out, Malte Stromwall scored the club’s only goal in a 4-1 setback to Providence on Sunday. Former Sound Tiger Taylor Beck was held off the score sheet that afternoon, but continues to pace Hartford with an AHL career-high 63 points (19 goals, 44 assists), which also ranks second in the league overall. Beck was named to the AHL’s First All-Star Team on Thursday.

ROOKIE RECOGNITION

The American Hockey League announced Wednesday that Devon Toews has been named to the 2016-17 AHL All-Rookie Team, as voted by coaches, players and media in each of the league’s 30 markets. The Quinnipiac University product has skated in all 71 games for the Sound Tigers this season and leads all rookies with 37 assists, while tying for the league lead among rookie defensemen with 41 points. Toews represented Bridgeport at the 2017 AHL All-Star Classic in January.

JUST THAT EASY

New York Islanders prospect Jake Bischoff has three points (two goals, one assist) in three pro games since debuting in Lehigh Valley last weekend. The reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year with the University of Minnesota notched two points (one goal, one assist) in his debut on Friday and added the game-winning goal on Tuesday. He also has eight shots and a plus-1 rating in three games. Five players have now made their pro debut with the Sound Tigers this season, including Bischoff, John Stevens, Devon Toews, Travis St. Denis and Josh Ho-Sang.

QUICK HITS

The Sound Tigers have scored first in four straight games and are 31-5-1-0 when striking first in a game this season... Connor Jones became the second former Sound Tiger to make his NHL debut this season when he helped the Islanders to a 4-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres last Sunday... Eamon McAdam is 4-0-0 in his last four starts with a 1.50 goals-against-average and .935 save percentage... Josh Winquist is on a four-game point streak.
