The New York Islanders announced today defenseman Devon Toews has been recalled from the team's American Hockey League affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

Toews, 23, played three exhibition games with the Islanders this preseason, including the Isles 2-1 win over the New York Rangers at Webster Bank Arena on Sept. 22. Last season, he led the Sound Tigers with 40 assists and ranked third on the team in scoring with 45 points while playing in all 76 games. Toews also led all league rookies in assists and earned AHL All-Rookie Team honors in April.

A native of Abbotsford, British Columbia, Toews was named to the AHL's All-Star Classic last January and won the fastest skater competition in the event's skills competition.

Prior to turning pro, Toews spent three seasons at Quinnipiac University from 2012-15. He notched 67 points (12 goals, 55 assists) in 108 games and helped the Bobcats reach the 2016 Frozen Four Championship game.

The 6'1, 174-pound forward was selected by the Islanders in the fourth round (108th overall) of the 2014 NHL Draft.
