Devon Toews scored twice, including the overtime winner with less than five seconds remaining, as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (7-7-0-0), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, captured a 2-1 victory against the Hartford Wolf Pack (6-7-1-1) at the XL Center on Wednesday.

Christopher Gibson (4-4-0) backstopped the effort with a season-high 35 saves and came up big with 16 stops in the first period and three down the stretch in overtime. It was Gibson's fourth win in five games and improved him to fifth among AHL netminders with a 2.13 goals-against-average this season.

BOX SCORE

Gibson and Hartford's Alexandar Georgiev were remarkable between the pipes, stopping a combined 45 shots through two periods. Toews broke the scoreless deadlock at 3:55 of the third when he fired a shot from the blue line that sailed past Steve Bernier's screen and under Georgiev's blocker. On a delayed penalty, Tanner Fritz gathered the puck at the left boards and directed a pass to the right point, where Toews slapped it home for his first tally of the season. Kyle Burroughs was also credited with an assist.

The Wolf Pack answered at the 15:11 mark when Vinni Lettieri scored his seventh goal of the season, but just his third at even strength. Following a wall battle deep in Bridgeport's zone, Dan DeSalvo guided the puck to Lettieri, who skated through the left circle, neared the hash marks and fired a shot short side, past Gibson's blocker. Cole Schneider also received a helper on the tally that forced overtime.

The Sound Tigers earned the extra point beyond regulation when Toews and Fritz converted on a 2-on-1 rush with the clock running out. Following a couple of pad saves by Gibson, Travis St. Denis sprung Fritz the other way with an outlet pass that led the charge. Fritz skated in and fired a shot from the right circle that Georgiev kicked away, but the rebound came right to Toews for the game-winning goal with 4.3 seconds remaining.

Fritz ended up with two assists and now leads the team with six multi-point efforts this season. Both clubs finished the game 0-for-4 on the power play, while Hartford led the shot count 36-29. It was just the third time this season the Sound Tigers have been outshot in a contest. Casey Bailey led Bridgeport with a season-best eight shots.

Georgiev (3-3-3) made 27 saves in his sixth consecutive appearance.
