WORCESTER, MA – Danny Grouix had a goal and an assist and Alex Stalock made 29 saves to lead the Worcester Sharks to a 4-1 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers Saturday night at the DCU Center. Tyler Haskins scored the only Sound Tigers goal.
Alex Desjardins tallied his sixth goal of the year at the 6:06 mark of the first period to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead. Grouix fired a shot from the left circle that Desjardins deflected through traffic past Nathan Lawson. It was the only goal of an exciting first period in which the Sharks held a 17-12 advantage in shots. Sean Bentivoglio had the best scoring chance of the period for the Sound Tigers, as he was denied by Stalock on a transition breakaway started by a pass from Mark Flood.
Logan Couture made it 2-0 Sharks six minutes into the second period. Couture took a pass from Steve Zalewski and snapped a shot that went off Lawson’s glove and trickled into the net.
Stalock stopped another Sound Tiger breakaway late in the second, making a glove save on Justin DiBenedetto's shot from the high slot. In the final seconds of the frame, Trevor Smith put a rebound just wide of an open net.
Haskins put the Sound Tigers on the board with a shorthanded tally at the 10:40 mark of the third period. Mark Katic sent Haskins up ice with a head-long pass and Haskins was able to hold off his defender enough to lift a back-hand shot into the top of the net as we was falling to the ice. However, just 39 seconds later, Grouix made it a two goal Sharks lead again with a power-play tally. Zalewski hit Grouix with a pass from behind the net and Grouix fired a shot past Lawson from the slot to make it 3-1.
Ryan Vesce added an empty net goal with 1:04 left to seal the victory for Worcester. The Sharks outshot the Sound Tigers 35-30 for the game.
