GILLIES SIGNS NHL DEAL
UNIONDALE, NY -- The New York Islanders have agreed to terms with Sound Tigers forward Trevor Gillies on an NHL contract. Gillies was officially recalled on Friday and is expected to make his Islanders debut when the Islanders visit the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday afternoon.
The Cambridge, ON native was originally signed by the Sound Tigers to a one-way AHL contract at
the start of the 2009-10 season. He has played in 18
games, scoring a goal and accumulating 123 penalty minutes. The 6'3,
215 pound Gillies has played one prior game in the NHL with the Anaheim
Ducks (formerly the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim) and in that one contest he
totaled 23 penalty minutes.
The Islanders will open a four game road trip in Carolina Thursday night. The Sound Tigers are back in action Friday when they open a weekend series against the Portland Pirates at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
