BRIDGEPORT, CONN. (Aug. 25, 2010) - The Bridgeport Sound Tigers and the American Hockey League have officially released the 2010 - 11 regular season schedule. The Sound Tigers will open the their 10th Anniversary campaign at the Arena at Harbor Yard on Saturday, Oct. 9 when they face-off against the reigning Atlantic Division Champion, Worcester Sharks at 7 p.m.
The Sound Tigers will play four of their first five games at home to begin the year. On Sunday, Oct. 10, the Sound Tigers close out their home-opening weekend against the Manchester Monarchs at 3 p.m. Following an Oct. 15 road game against the Portland Pirates, Head Coach Jack Capuano’s squad returns home to face their in-state rivals, the Hartford Wolf Pack on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. and Portland the following afternoon at 3 p.m.
The Sound Tigers will take on the Wolf Pack a total of 10 times over the course of their 80-game schedule. After the October 16 game against Hartford, the rivalry heats up in November, when the two teams will square off a total of four times in two home-and-home series set for Nov. 6-7 and Nov. 26-27. The Sound Tigers will host the first game of both series on Nov. 6 and 26, and then travel up to the XL Center for Saturday evening games on Nov. 7 and 27. All four game games are scheduled for 7 p.m.
The rest of November is a busy month for the Sound Tigers with 15 games on the schedule. The annual “Cool Fun 101” game, which stresses the importance of a quality education partnered with hockey, is set for Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. against the Springfield Falcons. During the holiday months of November and December, the Sound Tigers will embark on a four-game homestand during the week of Thanksgiving and home contests on Dec. 26 and 31 against Hartford and Worcester.
February’s schedule of games will include visits from both of the AHL’s Pennsylvania based teams. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins come to town on Friday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. and the reigning Calder Cup Champion Hershey Bears will make their way to Harbor Yard on Feb 27 at 7 p.m.
The newest addition to the AHL, the Charlotte Checkers, playing in their inaugural season as the new AHL affiliate of the Carolina Hurricanes, will visit the Sound Tigers on March 16 and 18, both games will start at 7 p.m.
The Connecticut Post will sponsor two Kids Free Games this season. Kids ages 12 and under will get in for free on Wednesday, Feb. 23 against Providence at 7 p.m. and on Friday, March 18 vs. Charlotte at 7 p.m., courtesy of The Connecticut Post.
The month of April features three home games starting with “Spring Fun 102”, which will celebrate students’ successful completion of the Connecticut Mastery Test. That game will be against Springfield on Tuesday, April 5 at 11 a.m. The final weekend of the season will culminate in a home-and-home series against the Wolf Pack on Apr. 8 and 9, followed by the regular season finale at home on Sunday, Apr. 10 at 3 p.m. against the Albany Devils.
