We roll on today with the second installment of the Sound Tigers All-Time Fantasy Team. Yesterday, we announced the Jeff Hamilton, Trent Hunter, and Jeff Tambellini as the top three all-time forwards in Sound Tigers history, as voted on by you the fans. This time, we move back to the blue line, and take a look at the top defensemen since 2001 to call the Arena at Harbor Yard home. Again, we will start with the coaches and finish up with the fan vote.

Assistant Coach Matt Bertani

Defensemen: Bruno Gervais - Mark Wotton

"I’ve got to put Wotts in here as one of the top D-men. He’s played the most games of anyone in Sound Tigers history, and his leadership for this team has been great. And I've got to go with Bruno Gervais. He’s playing in the NHL right now, put up some solid numbers during his time here, and he skates very well as a defenseman.”

Assistant Coach Pat Bingham

Defensemen: Jack Hillen - Andrew MacDonald

“Jack Hillen is a great skater who really knows how to move the puck.  He’s got a very high hockey IQ, and does a nice job joining the rush out of the zone to create odd man chances. Andy MacDonald is another player who can really skate and pass the puck around. Incredibly intelligent, and also great on special teams. He’s a top guy on both the power play and penalty kill, and also isn’t afraid to block shots.”

Head Coach Jack Capuano

Defensemen: Bruno Gervais - Mark Wotton

"I didn’t coach Bruno here, but I saw him when I was an assistant on Long Island. He’s a very skilled guy, definitely useful on the power play and led defensemen in scoring during his time with the Sound Tigers. I could pick Mark Wotton for a lot of reasons. He’s not going to put up the best numbers, but he brings a lot more than stats can even tell. His leadership qualities are fantastic and he’s been the captain here for so long."

The Fan Vote

Defensemen: Bruno Gervais - Mark Wotton

Current Islander Bruno Gervais and Sound Tigers captain Mark Wotton garnered the fans' votes as the top two defensemen in Sound Tigers history. Gervais played in 134 games for the Sound Tigers, and leads all defensemen in goals scored all-time with 24. Wotton is the longest tenured captain in team history as he heads into his fifth season wearing the "C", and is also the all-time leader in games played with 297. His 100 career points with the Sound Tigers rank him 11th amongst all skaters and first amongst defensemen. Honorable mention goes to Chris Campoli, who was narrowly edged out in the fan voting by Mark Wotton. Campoli spent parts of two season with the Sound Tigers, before moving up the Islanders and then to the Ottawa Senators.

The Sound Tigers All-Time Fantasy Team currently looks like this:
