BRIDGEPORT, CONN. (June 30, 2011) – The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today they have agreed to terms with defenseman Benn Olson on a one-year, AHL contract.

Olson, 24, joined the Sound Tigers on a professional tryout contract (PTO) on Feb. 25, 2011. The 6’4, 215-pound blue-liner recorded three assists in addition to 78 penalty minutes in 17 games. Olson played the majority of last season with the Cincinnati Cyclones of the East Coast Hockey League where he totaled four points (one goal, three assists) and 153 penalty minutes in 43 games. He also played in one game last season with the AHL’s Milwaukee Admirals and split the previous two seasons between the Florida Everblades (ECHL) and the Albany River Rats (AHL).

The Port McNeil, B.C. native played his junior hockey in the Western Hockey League with the Kamloops Blazers and Seattle Thunderbirds, notching 29 points (three goals, 26 assists) and 746 penalty minutes in 244 games.
