The Islanders have tendered qualifying offers to Sean Backman, Justin DiBenedetto, Mark Katic, Mikko Koskinen, Tomas Marcinko, Matt Martin, Rhett Rakhshani and Ty Wishart.

Backman, 26, recorded 18 points (7 G, 11 A) in 66 games in his first season with the Sound Tigers last year.

Koskinen, posted a 2.82 GAA and .909 sv.% in three games with the Sound Tigers before being loaned to KalPa of the Swedish Elite League where he posted a 2.30 GAA and .916 sv.% in 25 games.

Marcinko, 24, enjoyed is most successful season with the Sound Tigers in his fourth year with the Islanders organization. The Poprad, Slovakia native posted career highs in goals (8), assists (13), points (21), shots on goal (99), and penalty minutes (78) in 65 games.

Wishart, 24, totaled 19 points (5 G, 14 A) in 71 games with the Sound Tigers. The Belleville, ON native also appeared in one game with the Islanders last season.


DiBenedetto, Katic, and Rakhshani have all signed contracts to play in Europe for the upcoming season, which means the Islanders will retain their NHL rights.
