UNIONDALE, NY (July 2, 2012) - The New York Islanders announced today that forwards Brandon DeFazio and Colin McDonald have agreed to terms on one-year, two-way contracts.
DeFazio, 23, completed his first full professional season last year with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League. The Etobicoke, ON, native recorded 16 points (11 goals, five assists) and 104 penalty minutes in 66 regular season games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, and also appeared in 12 Calder Cup Playoff games.
A 6'1, 215-pound forward, DeFazio made his professional debut with the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL late in the 2010-11 season after completing a four-year collegiate career at Clarkson University. In 141 games with the Golden Knights, DeFazio recorded 77 points (36 goals, 41 assists) and 176 penalty minutes.
McDonald, 27, scored 49 points (14 goals, 35 assists) in 68 games last season with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. The New Haven, CT, native added 13 points (six goals, seven assists) in 12 Calder Cup Playoff games and also appeared in five National Hockey League games last season with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
A 6'2, 190-pound forward, McDonald made his professional debut with the Springfield Falcons in the 2007-08 season after completing a four-year collegiate career at Providence College. The Edmonton Oilers selected McDonald in the second round (51st overall) of the 2003 NHL Draft. He's scored one goal in seven career NHL games with Edmonton and Pittsburgh, while also appearing in 306 career AHL games with Springfield, the Oklahoma City Barons and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton
