This Sunday at 3 p.m., the Sound Tigers will continue a tradition of honoring former players when they hold a Matt Martin Bobblehead Giveaway, presented by Newtown Savings Bank. The first 2,000 fans through the door at Webster Bank Arena will receive a Matt Martin bobblehead doll. Martin will also be on hand for an autograph session following Sunday’s game against the Providence Bruins.

Martin was drafted in the fifth round (148th overall) by the New York Islanders in 2008. He played three junior hockey seasons with the Sarnia Sting in the Ontario Hockey League and was a fan favorite in his one full season with the Sound Tigers, in 2009-10. He scored 31 points (12 goals, 19 assists) in 76 AHL games and also amassed 113 penalty minutes. He began the 2010-11 season with the Sound Tigers, skating in seven games with the team, but was recalled by the Islanders and has stayed with the big club ever since.

Martin has been an important part of the Islanders club since joining the roster, providing physicality and energy as a third or fourth line forward. In the Islanders’ Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series against the Pittsburgh Penguins last season, Martin played in all six games and also added a goal. He also played in all 48 games in the shortened 2012-13 season.

Make sure to get to Webster Bank Arena early to ensure you get your Matt Martin Bobblehead, presented by Newtown Savings Bank!
