The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today that forward Josh Holmstrom has been signed to an amateur tryout contract (ATO). Additionally, forward Brock Montpetit has been released from his ATO.
Holmstrom, 24, recently completed a four-year career at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell. He skated in 154 games over four seasons with the River Hawks and scored 74 points (31 goals, 43 assists). The Colorado Springs, Colo., native served as UMass-Lowell’s captain in 2013-14 and notched 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists). Holmstrom is the second straight River Hawks captain to sign an ATO with the Sound Tigers following his senior season. Riley Wetmore was their captain in both 2011-12 and 2012-13 and signed an ATO after UMass-Lowell was eliminated from the NCAA Tournament last season.
Montpetit, 23, appeared in two games for the Sound Tigers since signing an ATO on March 21. He also played in 136 games at the University of Nebraska-Omaha over the past four seasons. The Somerset, Wis., native collected 85 points in his four years with the Mavericks. Montpetit played his junior hockey in the USHL, with three seasons as a member of the Waterloo Black Hawks. In his final season, Montpetit scored 69 points (28 goals, 41 assists) in 55 games.
