PHANTOMS 4, SOUND TIGERS 2
It took nearly 30 minutes for the first goal of the contest to be scored, but once it was, the offense came fast and furious. Adirondack struck first after the Sound Tigers turned it over at the Adirondack blue line, which led to a neutral zone pass from Derek Whitmore to Nick Cousins. Cousins walked in on a breakaway and went to the backhand to beat Trudeau and give the Phantoms a 1-0 lead.
The Sound Tigers answered just 30 seconds later as Quine tied the score. The puck made its way behind the Phantoms net with Ryan Walters in possession. Quine was out in front at the base of the left circle, got the pass from Walters and beat Phantoms goaltender Carsen Chubak to make it a 1-1 game.
Later in the second, the Phantoms were on the power play and converted to take the lead. Petr Straka had the puck at the right wing and fed it through the slot to Kyle Flanagan. Flanagan didn’t get a lot on the one-timer, but got enough to beat Trudeau and make it a 2-1 game.
In the final moments of the second, another Sound Tigers penalty led to Adirondack’s second consecutive power play, but Vaughan scored shorthanded to tie the score. He and Aaron Ness came into the Phantoms zone two-on-one with Ness carrying the puck along the right wing. Ness made a pass that looked like it might be slightly behind Vaughan, but he readjusted himself just enough to get his stick behind the puck and blast a one-timer into the top corner. The goal came with less than 12 seconds to play in the middle period and tied the score at two.
With less than five minutes to play in regulation, the game remained deadlocked, but the Phantoms broke the tie on a goal from Brandon Manning. Manning broke to the net and took a backdoor feed from Straka to give the Phantoms a 3-2 lead. The Sound Tigers pulled the goaltender in the final stages, but Brandon Alderson’s empty-netter sealed the win for Adirondack.
The Sound Tigers close out the season with two games on the road. They’ll face the Phantoms once again Friday night before the season finale against the Hartford Wolf Pack Saturday night.
