SOUND TIGERS SIGN JUHA AND WOTHERSPOON TO ATOs
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers announced today that defensemen Luke Juha and Parker Wotherspoon have been signed to Amateur Tryout contracts. The team also announced that defenseman Graeme McCormack has been released from his ATO.
Juha, 23, completed his college career with Penn State University on Friday after appearing in 33 games for the Nittany Lions, recording eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points. In 101 games with Penn State, the Mississauga, Ontario native posted 15 goals and 45 assists to go along with 18 penalty minutes.
Wotherspoon, 18, has played the past three years for the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League, putting up 11 goals and 45 assists in 71 games this season. In 210 career WHL games, Wotherspoon has 22 goals and 94 assists from the blue line.
The Islanders’ fourth-round selection (112nd overall) in the 2015 NHL Draft, Wotherspoon served as an alternate captain for Tri-City the 2015-16 season. The 6-foot, 171-pound defenseman won a Bronze Medal with Canada’s at the 2015 Under-18 World Junior Championship and a Silver with Canada at the 2014 World Hockey Championship. A Surrey, British Columbia native, Wotherspoon’s older brother Tyler is currently a defenseman for the Calgary Flames.
