THE STORY COMING IN
The Bridgeport Sound Tigers (6-7-0-0), proud AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders, travel to the XL Center tonight for a 7 p.m. rematch against the Hartford Wolf Pack (6-7-1-1) following a 2-1 setback at home last Saturday. The Sound Tigers have dropped two games in a row, but the club returns to a venue tonight where it is 6-1-1-0 since Jan. 29, 2016. Ryan Bourque scored Bridgeport's only goal on the power play Saturday night, his first with the Sound Tigers, which also came against the team he spent five seasons with to begin his pro career (and captained in 2015-16). Bourque and teammate Steve Bernier each enter tonight's contest on a three-game point streak.
TIGERS VS. WOLF PACK
Tonight's contest marks the fourth of 10 meetings between the Sound Tigers and Wolf Pack this season, and the second of five matchups at the XL Center. Bridgeport is 2-1-0-0 against Hartford this season, including a 5-1 victory on the road on Oct. 27. Michael Dal Colle, Connor Jones and Josh Ho-Sang all recorded multiple points that night, while Christopher Gibson made 23 saves on 24 shots.
VIEW FROM HARTFORD
The Wolf Pack have recorded points in three straight games (2-0-1-0) for the second time this season following a 3-2 overtime loss to the Laval Rocket on Sunday. Dan Catenacci scored for the second straight game and Vinni Lettieri netted his team-leading sixth goal of the season, while Alex Georgiev made 37 saves that afternoon. Georgiev has played in five straight games and has started each of the last three, stopping 101 of the last 107 shots he has seen. Offensively, Cole Schneider and former Sound Tiger Joe Whitney lead the club with 11 points in 15 games.
Sebastian Aho became the first Sound Tigers defenseman to ever record a hat trick when he scored three times in Providence on Nov. 5. He added another tally last Wednesday and now leads all AHL blue-liners with six goals this season. In addition, Aho is tied for the league lead in game-winning goals (three), is tied for seventh among AHL defensemen with nine points (six goals, three assists) and ranks second on the Sound Tigers in scoring. Aho, who rolls into tonight's game with five points in his last three games, was selected by the New York Islanders in the fifth round of the 2017 NHL Draft.
KILLING IT ON THE KILL
The Sound Tigers penalty kill has been sensational over the last three weeks and enters tonight's game 29 for its last 31 (93.5%), dating back to Oct. 27. In addition, the team's penalty kill is 22 for 23 (95.7%) over its last five outings. It currently ranks 10th in the AHL.
SHOT THROUGH THE HEART
The Sound Tigers have recorded a season-high 44 shots in each of their last two games, climbing to third in the AHL with more than 32 shots/game on average. Devon Toews leads the club with 15 shots during that span, while Casey Bailey paces the Sound Tigers overall this season with 42. Bridgeport has outshot its opponents in 11 of 13 games year and all six of the team's wins have come when logging at least 30 shots on goal.
Six of the Sound Tigers last 13 goals have been scored by defensemen... Christopher Gibson is 11th in the AHL with a 2.32 goals-against-average... Gibson is two appearances from tying Stephon Williams (2015-17) for seventh place on the team's all-time games played list for netminders...
