To our loyal fans,
As we reflect on our 2011-12 season, we can't help but be proud of the amazing strides we made as an organization on and off the ice.
First and foremost, we want to thank you, the fans, for your undying support for our team this seaosn. We saw some of the best hockey at Webster Bank Arena over the past 10 years, and you responded by coming out and supporting the team in record numbers.
Not only did we finish the 2011-12 season as the best team in the Northeast Division, we also concluded the season with the highest attendance in the division as well. We averaged nearly 5,000 fans per game, a substantial increase from the 2010-11 season, which helped our team to a 25-9-2-2 record at Webster Bank Arena, one of the best home records in the American Hockey League.
Our team made an unprecedented turnaround after the Christmas Break, posting the second best record in the entire league in the second half of the season. Your enthusiasm was key in a turnaround that saw us break a team record with eight goals against Springfield on Feb. 11 and three dramatic overtime wins in the final week of March en route to our first division title in a decade.
We also saw many future NHL mainstays "Born in Bridgeport" this year. David Ullstrom started this season leading the AHL in goals through the first month before earning his call to Long Island, where he spent nearly half of the season. Rookie sensation Casey Cizikas, selected as an AHL All-Star, was a leading force with our team before getting his first taste of the NHL in late February. Defensemen Calvin de Haan, Matt Donovan and Aaron Ness all earned their first NHL call-ups, while goaltenders Kevin Poulin and Anders Nilsson both earned wins for the Isles and showed their abilities to be effective at the next level.
Though our exit from the 2011-12 postseason was earlier than expected, our team's accomplishments have us even more excited than ever for what the next season has in store. We thank you for all of your support and dedication. Please join us on Opening Night in October when we raise our 2011-12 Northeast Division Champions banner and aim for another postseason run.
Very truly yours,
Bridgeport Sound Tigers
