BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (Aug. 13, 2013)- The Bridgeport Sound Tigers fans, players, and opponents will be seeing the game in a whole new light this season as Harbor Yard Sports and Entertainment has selected an innovative new LED lighting System by New York State-based Ephesus Lighting to illuminate the 10,000-seat Webster Bank Arena. The announcement of the new lighting system installation was made by Howard Saffan, president of Harbor Yard Sports and Entertainment and Joe Casper, president of Ephesus Lighting, Inc.
“Our fans deserve the best lighting available to enhance their enjoyment of sports and entertainment of events at Webster Bank Arena,” Saffan said. “After much research, it is clear that the Ephesus LED lighting system is the best arena-lighting product available. The high quality of the lighting, coupled with the cost-saving, flexibility, and lifespan of the Ephesus lighting system, made it the perfect solution for our needs.”
The Ephesus LED lights replace a metal halide system that was installed in 2001, when the arena was built. The installation at Webster Bank Arena is slated to begin on August 26 and will be completed in time for the Sound Tigers home opener on October 5.
“With the Ephesus LED lighting system, we could legitimately go from consumption levels of 1.5 million kilowatts annually to approximately 350 thousand kilowatts annually while improving the quality of our lighting,” Shane Beardsley, Director of Events and Operations for Harbor Yard Sports and Entertainment, said. “We’re very excited about the savings in both cost and energy consumption that this system will provide in addition to enhancing our in-arena experience.”
“We commend Webster Bank Arena for seeing the many clear benefits that our Ephesus LED system offers,” Mr. Casper said. “LED is the natural evolution of arena and stadium lighting for many reasons, but most importantly, it provides an optimal stage for events, players and fans.”
Because of the consumption savings the Ephesus lighting system will provide, United Illuminating Company will help Webster Bank Arena defray a portion of the costs through the Energy Efficiency Fund. Additionally, Webster Bank Arena will also be installing the Crestron Lighting Control System, which will control each of the approximately 150 Ephesus units in the arena and 88 units in the concourse.
“Everyone learned the shortcomings of non-LED lighting at the Super Bowl this year,” Casper said. “The electrical problem at the Superdome was fixed quickly but it took time for the lights to be turned back on. Had the Superdome been equipped with Ephesus LED lights, the lights would have been back on with the flick of a switch.”
