The Bridgeport Sound Tigers lost the Manchester Monarchs Sunday afternoon by a final score of 3-1. Sean Wiles had the lone Sound Tigers goal, but a hat trick from Tanner Pearson was the difference in the contest. Anders Nilsson saw 21 shots in the game and made 19 saves, with one empty-net goal scored, as well.
Manchester scored just 2:29 into the contest on the first of Pearson’s three goals. A Monarchs shot from the point went wide, but Pearson picked up the puck behind the net. He came out front towards the near post and banked it in off of Nilsson for the opening goal of the game.
Pearson struck again early in the second period to make it a 2-0 Monarchs lead. He found the puck down low and, once again, put it in from close range. That was his ninth goal of the season, though he added another later on in the game. Incidentally, both teams had the same amount of shots at the end of each of the first two periods. They had five in the first period and nine shots on goal in the second for a total of 14 apiece.
The Sound Tigers got it to within one with less than two minutes gone by in the third period on Sean Wiles’ first goal of the season. After an extended shift in the Monarchs end, the Sound Tigers started a partial line change, which put Wiles on the ice with Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Alan Quine. Bouchard slid a pass towards the circle for Wiles, who was just coming on the ice. Wiles blasted the shot past Jean-Francois Berube to make it a 2-1 game.
The Sound Tigers managed more chances through the third, but Berube did not let another puck get by him. With less than two minutes to go, the Sound Tigers pulled Nilsson in favor of the extra attacker, which gave Pearson a chance to complete his hat trick. After skating the puck to center ice, he sent a backhand into the open net for his third goal of the game to seal the win for Manchester.
The Sound Tigers are back in action Friday night in Hartford to face the Wolf Pack before returning home for another game against Manchester Saturday at 7 p.m.
