Bridgeport Sound Tigers forward is having an outstanding rookie season in the American Hockey League. He made a splash with the New York Islanders in his first professional game last season and picked up right where he left off with the Sound Tigers in 2013-14.
Drafted by the Islanders in the sixth round (152nd overall) in the 2009 draft, Lee developed into a prototypical power-forward after three years at the University of Notre Dame. With size and strength up front, Lee has 17 goals is tied with Abbotsford's Markus Granlund for the most among AHL rookies. The past year has certainly been a whirlwind one for the Edina, MN, native, so let's take a look at a timeline.
3/24/13: Lee and the Fighting Irish defeat the University of Michigan in the CCHA Championship game, the final title in the history of the conference. Lee, who served as captain of Notre Dame in 2012-13, had a goal in the contest. The CCHA disbanded at the end of the season and Notre Dame now plays in Hockey East.
4/1/13: After the Fighting Irish were eliminated from the NCAA Tournament, Lee signs an entry-level contract with the New York Islanders.
4/2/13: Lee makes his professional debut with the Islanders in a home game against the Winnipeg Jets. On the very first shot of his pro career, he gets a shot past Ondrej Pavelec for his first goal.
4/6/13: In his final game of the season, Lee picks up an assist in a game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
10/5/13: After a full training camp with the Islanders, Lee begins his AHL career in a game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. Just as he did in his first NHL game, Lee scores in his very first AHL game. In fact, the goal was the first of the season for the Sound Tigers.
10/6/13: Lee opens up his AHL career with points in two straight games, after an assist in a shootout win against the Norfolk Admirals.
10/30/13: Lee has his first multi-point game, with two assists against the Hartford Wolf Pack. He had a pair of helpers in the Sound Tigers next game, against the Worcester Sharks, as well.
11/10/13: After being held goalless since his debut on 10/5, Lee scores twice, including the game-winning goal, against Adirondack in Kenny Reiter's first AHL win.
11/30/13: Though he doesn't score against the Albany Devils, Lee finishes the month of November with 10 points (six goals, four assists) and has 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) overall on the season.
12/1/13: An assist against Manchester sparks a four-game point streak for Lee in which he scores three goals and three assists. The Sound Tigers go on to win all four of those games.
12/4/13: Lee picks up his first fighting major in a scrap against Adirondack's Brandon Manning. He also scores the game's only goal.
1/24/14: With captain Chris Bruton out of the lineup of the Sound Tigers, Lee serves as an alternate captain. It's the first time in his pro career he's worn a letter on his chest. The Sound Tigers have had eight players serve as an alternate this season, Lee is the only rookie to get the honor.
1/26/14: Lee's 17th goal of the season ties him with Markus Granlund for most among AHL rookies.
