The New York Islanders announced today, goaltender Christopher Gibson has agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way (NHL/AHL) deal.

Gibson, 24, made his National Hockey League debut with the Islanders in 2015-16, appearing in four games during his first year with the organization. He earned his first NHL victory on April 5, 2016 against the Washington Capitals, which clinched the Islanders' 2016 Stanley Cup Playoff berth. Last season, Gibson posted a 6-0-0 record with a 2.52 goals-against-average and .912 save percentage in seven games with the Islanders' American Hockey League affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

A native of Karkkila, Finland, Gibson has played 106 AHL games with the Sound Tigers and Toronto Marlies, going 54-34-9 with a 2.54 goals-against-average, .915 save percentage and four shutouts. The Islanders initially acquired him on Sept. 17, 2015 in exchange for Michael Grabner from the Toronto Maple Leafs. Gibson was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round (49th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.

Prior to turning pro, the 6'1, 187-pound goaltender played four seasons with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League from 2009-13. He earned QMJHL First All-Star Team honors in 2010-11 and had the best save percentage (.920) of any league netminder that season. On the international stage, Gibson helped Finland to a bronze medal at the Under-18 World Junior Championships in 2009-10.
