After losing last night in Albany, the Sound Tigers were able to steal the second game of a home-and-home series with the River Rats in a 4-3 shootout victory, their first of the season. Jeremy Colliton opened and closed the scoring for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, wristing the game-winning shootout goal past Albany net-minder, Michael Leighton to clinch the 4-3 win for the Sound Tigers.

"The ice was wet so I knew that I wanted to shoot instead of make a deke," Colliton said during his first star interview. "I was able to find an opening on their goalie and wrist the puck under him."

Joey MacDonaldWith the Sound Tigers shorthanded just 1:45 seconds into the first period, it was the Sound Tigers' offense that seemed to go on the advantage. Colliton blocked a point shot and was able to beat the River Rat defenseman in a foot race to the loose puck and skate in alone on Leighton. The Albany net-minder bit on Colliton's fake shot and was beaten when Colliton dragged the puck to his back-hand and lifted the puck over the his blocker. The unassisted goal was Colliton's third of the season and it came 2:29 into the period. Nearly two minutes later, the River Rats would even the score when Mike Angelidis scored his fourth goal of the season with Casey Borer and Nicolas Blanchard assisting on the goal. With Albany back on the power-play later in the opening period, Derek Damon who was an invite to the Islanders and Sound Tigers' training camps scored his first goal of the season for the River Rats. Keith Aucoin and Ryan Bayda had the assists on the power-play goal at 10:31. Just under three minutes later, Sound Tigers' defenseman, Andrew MacDonald would extend his scoring streak to three games. MacDonald raced to the far boards to keep the puck in the zone and was able to corral the puck and send a snap shot from the point on goal that eluded Leighton to tie the score at two before the period would expire. Matthew Spiller and Darryl Bootland picked up assists on the goal.

In the second period, it was Albany's leading scorer, Jerome Samson scoring his ninth goal of the season to give his team the 3-2 lead. Damon and Aucoin received the assists on the goal.

Tim Jackman, who was reassigned by the New York Islanders to the Sound Tigers due to Shawn Bates finishing his conditioning stint with Bridgeport, scored his third goal of the season 2:02 into the third period. Sean Bentivoglio and Ben Walter were digging for the puck behind the net as the puck squirted into the slot to Jackman who snapped the shot through a screened Leighton knotting the score at 3-3.

After an overtime session proved unhelpful, the two teams went to the shootout to decide the victor. Sound Tigers' forward Frans Nielsen was the first to score when he backhanded a shot over Leighton's glove for the 1-0 shootout lead. Jakub Petruzalek would quickly answer, scoring on the River Rats' next attempt. Sound Tigers' goaltender, Joey MacDonald and Leighton traded saves as the final shot came down to Colliton. Colliton came straight at Leighton and did not hesitate as he fired a snap shot through Leighton's legs winning the game for the Sound Tigers, 4-3.

MacDonald finished the game with 26 saves on 29 Albany shots. In the shootout he stopped four of the five shots he faced. Leighton had 33 saves on 36 shots and was three for five in the shootout.

The Sound Tigers will travel to Binghamton to take on the Senators on Friday, Nov. 30 and then return home on Saturday to face-off against the Lowell Devils.

3 Stars

1. Jeremy Colliton - Scored a hard-working shorthanded goal in the first and then won the game for the Sound Tigers with his shootout goal
2. Joey MacDonald - Made many spectacular saves on the River Rats with his best coming when he spun around with his glove and stopped a shot by an Albany forward that would have given the River Rats the lead
3. Tim Jackman - Scored the game-tying goal in the third

The Showdown: The Sound Tigers were able to claim victory in their first shootout of the season. Joey MacDonald made a spectacular save on Keith Aucoin with his glove on the first shot to set the tone for the Sound Tigers. Colliton would finish the shootout off with a quick shot through Leighton's legs.

Back to their Old Tricks:
Tim Jackman was sent back to the Sound Tigers this morning by the Islanders and was immediately paired with his old line-mates. Sean Bentivoglio and Jackman flanked the wings and Ben Walter centered the two. Their hard work in the Albany zone at the start of the third period created the game tying goal by Jackman.

FansGame Operations: The Game Ops staff had the crowd cheering for their team throughout the start of the overtime and shootout sessions. During the first intermission, the Little Islanders came onto the ice to play in a mini-game and in the second intermission the booster club had their Chuck-A-Puck.
