SKATE WITH THE SOUND TIGERS

Nov 28, 2007   |  By Pat Salvas

Tuesday marked the third year in a row the Sound Tigers and their season ticket holders came together for a night of family fun at The Rinks at Shelton. The event is a way for the Sound Tigers to show their appreciation with their fans.

Kip BrennanTeam President Howard Saffan said, "This is a special way for us to say thanks to the fans and share the holidays with them". He added that this was a night about family fun and the Sound Tigers are happy to share these moments with the fans and their families.

When the doors to the ice surface were opened, roughly a dozen kids were on the ice, skating around waiting for the players to come out of their dressing room. Nearly every member of the team was there and ready to mingle with the fans.

"It's nice to see the faces of the people who are there in the stands every night," team captain Mark Wotton said. "Little kids don't want to ask you too many questions, they just want to race you or have you chase them for a few strides," he added.

It was a sea of Sound Tiger orange, as each player had on their jersey, matching the sweaters that many of the fans wore to the event. As the players broke off to spend more one-on-one time with the fans, the personalities of the players began to shine through.

Jeremy Colliton, Ben Walter and team enforcer Kip Brennan each took the hand of a younger fan and guided them around the rink. Joe Rullier jokingly hit Matthew Spiller into the boards in front of another group drawing laughs.

Carl Thane, a second year ticket holder, came with his son Andy and wife Debi. "I think this is cool. I get to meet the players of tomorrow and in a few years I can say 'Hey, I skated with that guy'". The Thanes were not the only representation of Section 119 as Frank DeLibero and his son, Frank Jr., were also on hand collecting autographs on the bench.

"I tell my son to hold on to these autographs because they could be big stars in the NHL someday," DeLibero said as Darryl Bootland signed a program for them. He and the Thanes agreed that this was a great way to connect with the players and show their kids that the players are just regular guys.

Joey MacDonaldAs Steve Regier leaned over the boards to throw something away, a very excited Luke Affano skated over to him. Affano was wearing all his goalie equipment (much of which had already been autographed) and asked if he could have a picture with Regier and goaltender, Joey MacDonald. Both Sound Tiger players happily obliged and skated over to make Affano's day.

Mike Morrison was seen at different points during the night lifting up some of the kids and spinning them around. Director of Operations Luke Milbury was also on the ice taking part in the fun with all the fans that support the Sound Tigers everyday.
