MONARCHS 5, SOUND TIGERS 1

Brian Boyle scored a hat-trick and Erik Ersberg was impressive in net as the Manchester Monarchs won their first and only appearance in Bridgeport this season, 5-1. Drew Fata's third period goal broke Ersberg's shutout and gave him his second of the season.

Manchester opened the scoring early as Boyle took a pass from Matt Moulson in front of the net and put the puck over Sound Tigers' starting goalie, Mike Morrison's shoulder at 5:38 of the first period. Moulson skated behind the Sound Tigers' net and found Boyle parked in front, finishing the play for his eleventh goal of the season, a power-play goal. Teddy Purcell also added an assist on the play.

The Monarchs would make it 2-0 when Paul Crosty intercepted an errant Sound Tiger pass through the middle of the defensive zone and scored on a turn-around slap-shot at the 9:25 mark of the first. The goal was Crosty's first of the season, unassisted.

The Sound Tigers looked as if they might make it a one-goal game at 13:30 when Joe Rullier took a pass in the slot, skated around a Manchester defenseman but was robbed by Monarch net-minder, Erik Ersberg.

In the second period, Boyle, who scored his eleventh goal of the season in the first, would score his second goal of the game just 19 seconds in. Gabe Gauthier had an assist to go along with Purcell's second helper of the game on the goal. Sound Tigers' goalie, Morrison, was relieved after the goal by Joey MacDonald.

After four straight victories, the Sound Tigers were not going to go down without a fight. Drew Fata, wired a slap shot from the point past Ersberg to draw the Sound Tigers closer, making the score 3-1. Ben Walter and Darryl Bootland had the assists of the goal.

Manchester would score the next two goals with just under five minutes to play in the final frame. David Meckler scored an unassisted goal, his eleventh goal of the season at 15:20 and Boyle would cap his hat-trick about a minute later when he jammed home a loose puck in front of MacDonald closing out the scoring with the Monarchs winning the game, 5-1.

Joey MacDonald, who came in for Morrison a minute into the second period finished the game with 19 saves on 21 shots, while Morrison, the Sound Tigers' starter, stopped six of the nine shots he faced. Manchester's Ersberg had 35 saves to earn his seventh win of the season.

The Sound Tigers went 0-4 on the power-play, while Manchester scored once out of their four opportunities. Bridgeport held the edge in shots in the game, out-shooting the Monarchs by a 36-30 margin.

3 Stars:

1. Brian Boyle - Scored a hat-trick
2. Erik Ersberg - Made numerous big saves keeping the Sound Tigers off the scoreboard
3. Teddy Purcell - Had a pair of assists in the game, tying him for the league lead in points with 39 this season

Game Operations: During the first intermission, the Watertown Youth Hockey League played a mini-game. Unlike many of the games played by youth leagues during Sound Tigers' game, the game's only goal was scored by the Green Team just before the game concluded.

Tale of the Tape:
Micheal Haley tried to spark the Sound Tigers with his aggressive play all night. Haley would do his best to pester the Monarchs, crashing the net and finishing all of his hits. He was in two fights, the first against Drew Bagnall in the opening period and Kevin Westgarth in the third. Both tilts went the distance as Haley got the nod in both.
