WATCH A MIC'D UP SESSION WITH TAMBELLINI FROM THE EVENT ON SOUND TIGERSTV NOW
Jan 28, 2008
Jeff Tambellini arrived in Binghamton, NY yesterday morning to join in on the 2008 AHL All-Star Game festivities. The appearance at the event is Tambellini's second of his career. He was a part of the game in Manitoba his rookie year when he was playing for the Manchester Monarchs.
Tambellini was selected to compete in three events, the fastest skater, the goalie save event and everyone's favorite, the shootout. The league's leading scorer started the night off with the fastest skater event, one that he was hoping the league would choose the rookies for. After seeing two players fall around the corners, Tambellini spoke with the event's host about his game plan.
The host asked what sort of superstitions does he have or methods to winning the event, and Tambellini answered, "Tape the sticks right." Not a strange answer out of the Sound Tigers leading scorer. After all the skaters had gone, Tambellini finished second with a time of 14.49 behind only Iowa Stars' forward and member of Planet USA, Toby Peterson who had a time of 14.01.
Tambellini's next event was to team up with Canadian Team captain and hero of the city of Binghamton, Denis Hamel. The two snipers teamed up against Providence Bruins goaltender, Tuuka Rask and scored four times on him. Both of Tambellini's goals came on laser shots over the Bruin net-minder's glove.
The last event that Tambellini took part in was the shootout and after all of his game clinching goals helping the Sound Tigers go 6-0 this season in the event, he was an easy choice. His opponent was once again Rask who seemed to have the book on Tambellini. Rask gave him a little opening on his glove side but anticipated him shooting there and snatched Tambellini's shot out of the air with his glove to deny Tambellini on his last event.
Tambellini used the time on the ice to reunite with friends Andrew Ebbett of the Portland Pirates, T.J. Hensick of the Lake Erie Monsters and Rob Schremp of the Springfield Falcons. Each reminisced of past games they'd played together and checked out sticks to see who had the best pattern.
Check out Sound TigersTV to watch Tambellini who wore the wireless microphone throughout the Skills Competition. Don't forget to watch Tambellini tonight when he represents Team Canada in the All-Star Game, starting at 7 p.m. and fans can watch it for free on theahl.com.
