INS AND OUTS - PASCAL MORENCY

Mar 18, 2008

Question: Name something about yourself people would be surprised to learn.

Answer: When I was little, I skated in a lot of figure skating classes to learn how to skate. I also have a dog named Rocco.

Pascal MorencyQ. If you were not a hockey player, what would you be doing?

A. I would be a boxer because I love the sport. I take lessons in the off-season because it is a great work-out and it helps on the ice. My favorite boxer is Joachim Alcine, a French-Canadian fighter. I have been taking boxing lessons recently in the area with Kip and it really helps our endurance throughout. We have a lot of fun.

Q. Speaking of fighting, it is a big part of your game. How do you prepare for a game knowing you may get into a fight?

A. Well I like to arrive to arena really early and start my preparation. I take a cold and hot tub to get my body going and then jump in the shower. I'll grab my sticks and tape them and then join the guys for a game of soccer. As far as fighting, I never sit in the locker-room before a game thinking, 'I am definitely going to fight tonight.' When I fight it is for a reason, maybe to stick up for a teammate or to give the team life. I have to be smart and make sure a fight is in the team's best interest.

Q. This being your first full season in the AHL, who is the toughest guy you've fought this season?

A. Paul Bissonnette from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is a really tough guy and so is Mike Hoffman from Portland.

Morency HSQ. Do you have any hidden talents?

A. I don't know if its hidden but I speak French very well.

Q. Is there a difference between French spoken in Montreal and French spoken in France?

A. Yes, the accents are totally different. The best way to describe it is comparing English in the USA to English in England or Australia.

Q. If you could meet anyone in the world, who would it be?

A. Joel Osteen, he is a pastor at the Lakewood Church in Houston, TX.

Q. What hockey player did you idolize as a kid growing up?

A. Mario Lemieux and Guy Lafleur. As I got older my favorite player became P.J. Stock because he is always exciting to watch. He was a hard-nosed player who would fight and never back down from anyone.

Q. What is the worst hockey injury you've suffered in your career?

A. This year's injury to my hand and the infection, believe it or not was not the worst one I've suffered. It was the most painful however. The worst is my left hand. I have no knuckle in my ring finger. It happened in a fight where I hit a guy so hard in the forehead that my knuckle shattered into pieces so there is no knuckle anymore. I have bone chips inside my hand right now from the injury.
