SUMMER READING PROGRAM

Jun 20, 2008   |  By Lauren Van Dam

The Bridgeport Sound Tigers are challenging kids to read as a part of the team’s Summer Reading Program. The program requires students from schools in the Fairfield and New Haven County districts to read a set number of books over the summer in accordance to the Governor’s Summer Reading Challenge.

If the student completes the set number of books, they will receive a free ticket to a Sound Tiger game. The ticket is valid for any regular season home game. Additional tickets are available for family members to attend the game.

“The Summer Reading Program takes our commitment and involvement in local schools to the next level,” Director of Community Relations, Shane Beardsley said. “Our Blades for Grades program is one of our most successful in-season programs and the Summer Reading Program allows for year long partnerships with area schools.”

Connecticut school districts are encouraged to take part in the Sound Tigers Summer Reading Program. To help promote reading and education over the summer, Storm, the Sound Tigers’ official mascot and representatives from the team, have been visiting schools to increase excitement for reading and the upcoming hockey season.

“I think this program is very important for students because reading is a valuable instrument used daily and in doing activities that you enjoy,” Community Relations Representative Sarah Osborne said. “It’s a critical tool for kids to succeed.”
