Box Score

Rob Hennigar returned to the Canadian Maritimes for the first time as a pro and scored twice, his first two goals of his career but it wasn't enough as the Binghamton Senators came from behind to beat the Sound Tigers 4-3 in a shootout. Brendan Bell recorded the game-tying goal in the third period and then had the clincher in the shootout. Mike Iggulden had the other goal for the Sound Tigers while the Senators had tallies from Mattias Karlsson and Zack Smith. Peter Mannino started in goal for the Sound Tigers and made 24 saves while Senators' starter, Brian Elliott turned aside 30 shots. The Sound Tigers did earn a point in the shootout and see their record drop to 10-3-0-2.

Binghamton came into tonight's game with the hottest power-play unit in the AHL and used their first man-advantage to break the scoreless tie when Karlsson snapped his second goal of the season past Mannino. Zack Smith threw a shot on net that Mannino turned aside but the puck came to Karlsson at the back post for the tap in goal coming, 12:22 into the first period. The Sound Tigers would answer with their own power-play goal when local favorite, Hennigar, a University of New Brunswick graduate, scored his first professional goal. With less than a minute remaining in the period, Ben Walter sent a cross-ice pass to Hennigar in the right circle. Hennigar used a screen in front, set by Jesse Joensuu, and fired the puck past Elliott to tie the score at 1-1.

Hennigar would grab the Sound Tigers' first lead at 14:46 with his second tally of the season. Chris Lee broke the puck out of the defensive zone and fired a long pass to Hennigar, who was cutting behind the Senators' defense. Hennigar came in all alone on Elliott and slid the puck through the goaltender's legs for his second goal of the game. Trevor Smith had the second assist on Hennigar's tally.

The third period was full of power-play tallies from both teams with Iggulden starting the scoring 39 seconds in. Lee and MacDonald would have the helpers on the marker, his team leading eighth goal of the game making the score 3-1 in favor of the Sound Tigers. The Senators would answer six minutes later when Smith collected a loose puck in the slot and ripped it past Mannino while on the man-advantage to cut the Sound Tigers' lead to 3-2. Bell and Ilya Zubov had assists on Smith's ninth tally of the season. Binghamton would knot the score at three with less than five minutes to play in regulation time, once again on the power-play when Bell walked in from the right point and blasted a shot over Mannino's glove, his fifth of the season. Zubov had the lone assist on the play.

With the game tied at three, both Mannino and Elliott kept their teams in the game stopping each shot they saw in the extra session. In the shootout, Bell scored the only goal, sliding the puck through Mannino's legs to claim the 4-3 victory over the Sound Tigers.

Mannino finished the game with 24 saves on 27 shots while Elliott earned the win with 30 saves on 33 shots. The Sound Tigers finished the game, 2-for-9 on the power-play while Binghamton went 3-for-6.

Immediately following tonight's game, the Sound Tigers will jump on a flight from Summerside, PEI to St. John's, NL for the second match-up between the two teams in consecutive nights. Game-time for tomorrow's contest is set for 6:30 p.m. The next home game the Sound Tigers will play is scheduled for Sunday, November 23 when the Philadelphia Phantoms visit Bridgeport for the second time this season.

3 Stars

1. Rob Hennigar - 2 goals
2. Brendan Bell - Game-tying and then clinching tallies in the shootout
3. Mike Iggulden - 1 goal
Honorable Mention: Zack Smith - 1 goal

Heavy Day: The Sound Tigers boarded their team bus at 6 a.m. yesterday morning and drove to LaGuardia Airport for a 10:45 a.m. flight to Toronto. Once they arrived in Toronto, the players had a two-hour layover before taking a flight to Halifax, NS. When the players arrived at about 6:30 p.m., they jumped on a bus for a three and a half hour ride to Summerside, PEI.

Familiar Face: The Sound Tigers knew they'd see their former defenseman Drew Fata this season but did not plan on it being this trip. Fata signed with the Phoenix Coyotes this summer and was playing for their AHL affiliate in San Antonio before being traded to Ottawa last week. Fata has since been loaned to Binghamton and was in the lineup tonight wearing his familiar number 44.

Back Home...Almost: Andrew MacDonald received the heroes welcome since he is from Judique, NS, which is about four hours from Summerside. MacDonald also played his junior days in Moncton, NB for the Wildcats, which is about an hour and a half away. Fans were thrilled to see the young defenseman and learn of his success this season in leading all Sound Tiger defensemen in points.
