Box Score

Kurtis McLean scored three points to add to his team lead of 18 and Nathan Lawson made 26 saves to lead the Sound Tigers to a 6-2 victory over the Binghamton Senators at the Mile One Center in St. John's, NL. Trevor Smith, Tomas Marcinko, Joe Callahan, Jeremy Colliton and Mike Iggulden each tallied a goal for the Sound Tigers. Ilya Zubov and Greg Mauldin had the goals for the Senators. Brian Elliot started in net for Binghamton but was pulled after allowing four goals on 13 shots. Jeff Glass replaced Elliott and had 16 saves on 18 shots. The Sound Tigers' record improves to 11-3-0-2 this season giving them 24 points and increasing their hold on the top spot in the American Hockey League.

Smith opened the scoring for the Sound Tigers 3:49 into the first period. With both McLean and Mike Iggulden pressuring the Senators' defensemen in the corners, the puck was turned over to Smith in the slot where he ripped the puck through Elliott for his fifth goal of the season. McLean would add to his team lead in points ten minutes later when he converted on a long outlet pass from Chris Lee and back-handed the puck through Elliott for the Sound Tigers' 2-0 lead. Andrew MacDonald also had an assist on McLean's sixth goal of the season, coming on the power-play.

Binghamton would get back into the game and cut the Sound Tigers' lead to 2-1 when Ilya Zubov scored his eighth goal of the season, giving him a point in each game these two clubs have played this season. The tally was a power-play goal and Brendan Bell had the lone assist.

As the second period got under-way, Binghamton came out of the locker-room flying as Greg Mauldin scored his first goal of the season 11 seconds in to knot the score at 2-2. Zack Smith and Zubov had the helpers on Mauldin's goal.

Marcinko would turn the tides back in favor of the Sound Tigers when he finished a bouncing puck in the crease to give the Sound Tigers the 3-2 lead. Jason Pitton and Micheal Haley out-worked two Senator defensemen in the near corner and Pitton came away with the puck and drove to the net. Elliott pushed the puck away but it came into the slot for Marcinko to one-time it past his glove for his second goal this season. About three minutes later, Callahan would fire his second marker this season off the left post and past Elliott to make the score 4-2. Tyler Haskins and Sean Bentivoglio assisted on the tally that would end Elliott's night as he was replaced by Glass.

Colliton has been one of the hardest working players for the Sound Tigers and this season it has not paid off for him the score-board until tonight. With Binghamton breaking the puck out of the zone, Colliton dove to disrupt the play and knocked the puck off of Binghamton forward, Zack Smith's stick. Blake Comeau grabbed the puck and snapped a shot towards Glass that he turned aside with his pad but Colliton hopped up and went right for the net and slid the puck around Glass' left leg for his first goal of the season, giving the Sound Tigers the 5-2 lead.

In the third period, Iggulden would ice the game for the Sound Tigers with his ninth tally this season when he grabbed a rebound in front of Glass after he made a save on Kurtis McLean and slid a back-hand shot past the Binghamton goaltender to make the score 6-2 in favor of the Sound Tigers.

Lawson finished the game with 26 saves on 28 shots to earn his third victory of the season while Binghamton's starter, Elliott stopped nine of the 13 shots he saw. Glass, who replaced Elliott half-way through the middle frame made 16 saves. The Sound Tigers were 1-for-3 on the man-advantage while the Senators top power-play unit in the league went 1-for-5.

Up next for the Sound Tigers are the Houston Aeros on Sunday, Nov. 16 in Texas. Face-off for that game is at 5:05. On Tuesday, the Sound Tigers will travel to San Antonio to play the Rampage for the first time in several years. The puck is scheduled to drop at the AT&T Center at 8 p.m. The next home game for the Sound Tigers is on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 4 p.m. when the Sound Tigers take on the Philadelphia Phantoms for the second time this season.

3 Stars

1. Kurtis McLean - Scored the games first goal and added two assists
2. Nathan Lawson - Slow and steady wins the race and that's what he did making 26 saves
3. Mike Iggulden - Scored his team leading ninth marker this season and also added an assist
Honorable Mention: Jeremy Colliton - Hard-working play leads to his first goal of the season

The Former Fog Devils: The Mile One Center is the former home of the St. John's Fog Devils who played in the QMJHL (Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) for the past two seasons. The team was sold to Montreal, which leaves the building without any hockey tenants. The dressing room that the Sound Tigers were in rivals their home arena's room in the case of niceness.

MacDonald on the Mic: Andrew MacDonald wore a microphone for Sound TigersTV prior to tonight's game. He takes us through his pre-game rituals of soccer, stretching and systems with the coaching staff. Look for the feature piece to be up on the video portal in the next few days.

Comeau is Back: Blake Comeau was back in the Sound Tigers lineup tonight after missing the last two games. Comeau was on the second line with center Ben Walter and right wing Jeremy Colliton. Since returning to the Sound Tigers from the Islanders, Comeau has put up eight points in ten games played. He has been throwing the body a lot to open up space for his line-mates, which has created a lot of scoring chances. Tonight he had an assist on Colliton's first goal of the season.

Game Ops: Kurtis McLean received the number one star and was honored at center ice following the game. The city gave him some local goods to bring back to the USA. Following McLean's award, the whole team skated to center ice and saluted the crowd for supporting them and being so accommodating throughout their Maritimes trip.
