Dubie Lesson 1The Bridgeport Sound Tigers and MasterCard are offering fans the opportunity to have their dreams come true during the 2007-08, "Season of Dreams." The program gives fans the opportunity to meet their favorite Sound Tigers.

Drew Speckman, one of the youngest Sound Tiger season ticket holders, has idolized goalie Wade Dubielewicz throughout Dubielewicz's career in Bridgeport.

"Whenever I attend a game, I always hope that 'Dubie' is playing because he is my favorite player," Drew said. "I like him because he’s such a good goalie and is exciting to watch."

Drew shares the commonality with Dubielewicz that they both are goalies. Drew is the net-minder for Mid-Fairfield and over the past couple of seasons has slowly progressed into one of the better goalies for his age in the local area.

Through the help of MasterCard, the Sound Tigers were able to make Drew's wish of playing with his idol, Wade Dubielewicz, come true. On August 29, Dubielewicz gave a one-on-one goalie session to Drew at the Rinks at Shelton.

Dubie Lesson 2 Dubielewicz took Drew through drills that work on his angles, how to make a save without giving up a rebound and showed him how to execute his famous poke-check that he used to stop New Jersey Devils' forward, Sergei Brylin and help propel the Islanders into last season's Stanley Cup playoffs. As the two were finishing their session, Dubielewicz noticed that Drew’s goalie pads were dragging on the ice, which slowed him down when he’d try to move.

"A major part of a goalie’s game is his quickness and since Drew's pads were slowing him down, it was keeping him from making saves that he would have been making if his pads slid better on the ice," Dubielewicz said.

Dubielewicz took the pads home and sewed a piece of material on the inner part of Drew's pad. Now when Drew slides, he is quicker because his pads don’t drag. That piece of material, which Dubielewicz cut from one of his old Islander blockers, has saved Drew’s parents a lot of money.

"I have been asking my parents for new pads, but now that I have a piece of Dubie’s blocker on them I don’t want a new pair," Drew said.
