SOUND TIGERS DOWNED BY PACK
Sep 30, 2007
After playing four games in five nights, the fatigue had to kick in some time and it did for the Sound Tigers tonight as they were defeated by the Hartford Wolf Pack 2-0.
The Wolf Pack scored a goal in the first period and one in the second period to hold off the Sound Tigers. Mitch Fritz scored at the 6:36 mark of the opening period, off assists from Mark Lee and Bruce Graham. In the second, what appeared as an icing call was waved off when David Liffiton outraced a Sound Tiger defenseman to the puck and stuffed a wrap around into the Sound Tigers’ net with less than a second remaining in the middle frame.
In the third, Wolf Pack goalie, Matt Zaba would make six saves to go along with the 18 saves he made throughout the first and second periods to earn the shutout. Mike Mole started the game in goal for the Sound Tigers and made 23 saves. Maxime Ouellet came in at the 10-minute mark of the second period and finished the game, stopping a total of 12 shots. Each goalie surrendered one goal to Hartford.
With the loss the Sound Tigers finish the preseason with an even 2-2 record.
“We had a great camp,” Sound Tigers head coach Jack Capuano said. “A lot of guys came out here and showed a lot of passion and heart in their efforts to make the team."
3 Stars:
1. Matt Zaba – Shutout the Sound Tigers making 24 saves.
2. Masi Marjamaki – Got into a fight with the Wolf Pack’s Jordan Owens and showed a lot of heart.
3. Mark Lee – Set up the first goal with a pretty pass through legs and perfectly onto Fritz’s stick for the tap in.
Tough Guy Award: Michael Haley is the winner. Over the course of the four games, Haley stood up for his teammates and did his best to spark a fire under them in the hopes of swinging the momentum towards the Sound Tigers. Haley was in five fights in four games.
