10 TO REMEMBER - PART 2

The 2006-07 Bridgeport Sound Tigers Top-10 Games

Jul 12, 2007   |  By By Phil Giubileo

While the free-agent signing period is well underway, and our fans are learning about some of the new names and faces that will grace the Sound Tigers lineup this fall, let's take a moment to remember some of the top games of the 06-07 season.

Despite missing the playoffs, there were a number of exciting games last season that will be long remembered for years to come. Here are my top five games from last season:

5. December 2 @ Lowell (3-2 Overtime Win)

This one nearly got away from the Sound Tigers. A true back-and-forth game on the road, the Devils would counter every Bridgeport punch during regulation. Tuomas Pihlman tied the game in the second period after Chris Campoli gave Bridgeport a 1-0 lead in the first. When Allan Rourke netted his first of the season late in the second period, it was Petr Vrana tying the game at the nine minute mark of the 3rd.

For a moment it looked like all was lost for the Sound Tigers, as Jeff Tambellini was whistled for a hooking penalty in the defensive zone just 36 seconds into overtime. However, the Sound Tigers delivered the final blow, as Mark Wotton's perfect clearing attempt from the corner located Jeremy Colliton, who scored a short handed breakaway goal at the 1:26 mark of overtime, lifting the Sound Tigers to a big road win.

4. January 20 @ Hershey (4-3 Shootout Win)

Wade Dubielewicz was coming off of a shootout win on the road before a hostile Wachovia Spectrum crowd in Philadelphia on January 19th, so the question surrounding the Sound Tigers prior to game against the Bears was whether the bubble would burst on their success against the defending Calder Cup Champions.

It nearly did. The Bears jumped out to an early lead on Eric Fehr's 22nd goal of the season just 2:20 into the first period. Brandon Nolan tied it just a few minutes later, but the Bears countered with a pair of Tomas Fleischmann goals 10 minutes apart starting at 8:16 to give Hershey a 3-1 lead at the end of the first period following a 21 shot barrage.

"Dubie" settled down though, as he was magical the rest of the way, going a perfect 33-33 for the final two periods and regulation as the Sound Tigers mounted a comeback with a goal from Robert Nilsson in the second period and an Eric Bogueniecki goal at the 13:37 mark of the 3rd to tie the score. Allan Rourke snapped a 2-2 shootout tie in the final round, while Dubielewicz denied Joey Tenute for the win.

3. March 16 @ Norfolk (5-3 Win)

You could count on one hand the number of regulation losses that the Norfolk Admirals suffered at home last season-exactly one. The Admirals were dominant at home with a 32-5-2-1 in their own building, and when the Sound Tigers came in on March 16, they had suffered only three home losses.

A back-and-forth classic, the Sound Tigers saw a 2-0 lead evaporate in the second period on a pair of goals by defenseman Jordan Hendry, giving him just four on the season (and he wouldn't score another). Troy Brouwer gave the Admirals a short-lived 3-2 lead with his 36th of the season at the 7:31 mark, while Jeff Tambellini tied the game at the 12:12 mark.

Despite his offensive prowess in the second period, Hendry would end up being the goat as he was whistled for a spearing Boguniecki and given a double minor at the 16:51 mark. For a moment, it appeared that "Bogie" wouldn't return, but he was on the ice and scored the game-winning goal with two minutes remaining, while Tambellini added an empty-netter with nine seconds left to seal the win.

2. October 13 @ Hartford (6-3 Win)

Wins were few and far between last season against the Hartford Wolf Pack, but in Bridgeport's first road game against their cross-state rivals, the Sound Tigers mounted an amazing 3rd period comeback, as they turned around a 3-1 deficit and rallied for five unanswered goals to win 6-3 at the Hartford Civic Center.

Blake Comeau topped his four assist effort from the opening night win over Binghamton from the previous Sunday and scored five points on two goals to set a franchise mark for most points in a single game. The game-tying and game-winning goals came just 30 seconds apart by Steve Regier and Jeremy Colliton a little past the halfway mark of the final period.

1. October 21 @ Hershey (3-2 Shootout Win)

All roads pointed to a huge Hershey win before the opening puck drop. Not only did the Bears hand out their Calder Cup Championship rings before a sold-out crowd at the Giant Center, but the Sound Tigers were also without Wade Dubielewicz, who was called up to the Islanders on an emergency basis.

However, a Peter Ferraro first period goal gave the Sound Tigers an early 1-0 lead, while Jeff Tambellini added a tally in the second before the Bears scored two unanswered goals, including Tomas Fleischmann's game-tying goal with just 11 seconds left in the middle period.

The night belonged to the call-up Michael Mole, who stopped 11 third period shots, one in overtime, and was a perfect 3-3 in the shootout as the Sound Tigers earned the first of what would be six wins against the Bears last season.
