Matthew Spiller:
Question: Name something about yourself that people would be surprised to learn about you.
Answer: My hometown has a total of 800 people in it. The crazy thing is that we have only one stop sign in the center of town.
Q. If you were not playing hockey, what would you be doing?
A. I would be an elementary school teacher or a firefighter.
Q. If you won the lottery, what would you do with the money?
A. Finish paying off my house, purchase a new truck and put money away for my future kids to go to college.
Q. If you could meet anyone in the world, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
A. Johnny Cash because I like his music and he was a national icon.
Q. As a spectator of hockey, what is your favorite part of attending a game?
A. Since I am 6’5, I have to say the physical aspect of the game. It pumps everyone up no matter if you’re on the bench as a player or the crowd. It brings excitement to the arena.
Q. Do you have any superstitions?
A. I have to put my left skate on my foot first other wise I will not have a good game.
Q. What is your biggest pet peeve?
A. People who smoke. It’s an awful smell and IT KILLS YOU!!!
Q. What hockey player did you idolize as a kid and why?
A. Where I’m from, Daysland, Alberta, we were only an hour and a half away from Edmonton, so every kid in my town dreamt that they were Wayne Gretzky. He was the best player ever and was my favorite player.
Q. What is your greatest moment outside of hockey?
A. If I didn’t answer this way I’d be sleeping on the couch for the rest of the season but it is definitely, without a doubt, getting married.
Q. What is the worst hockey injury you’ve suffered in your career?
A. I blew out my shoulder and had to have surgery. It was the most pain I’ve ever felt when I woke up the next day.
