Bridgeport Sound Tigers play-by-play broadcaster Alan Fuehring welcomes forward Tanner Fritz to this week's edition of the Sound Up podcast series. Each Tuesday, join us as we take a deep dive into the lives and careers of Sound Tigers players, coaches, alumni and more!
Fritz agreed to a two-year deal with the New York Islanders on May 31, 2019 after playing eight games with the Isles before his season was cut short due to injury in 2018-19. He also played in 57 games with the Sound Tigers in 2018-19, scoring 37 points (12 goals and 25 assists). Last season, Fritz appeared in just four games with the Sound Tigers before an injury forced him to sit out the rest of the year.
Fritz has played the last five seasons within the Islanders organization. In 42 career NHL games, he has eight points (three goals and five assists). The Grande Prairie, Alberta native also has 129 points (43 goals and 86 assists) in 178 games with the Sound Tigers, which ranks 10th on the team's all-time scoring list. He was selected to represent the Sound Tigers at the 2018 AHL All-Star Classic, but was unable to play due to his first NHL recall.
Prior to his professional career, Fritz played four seasons at Ohio State University from 2011-15. He compiled 110 career points (36 goals and 74 assists) in 142 games and served as the team captain his senior year (2014-15).
