Housatonic Community College

Skills To Meet The Needs of Business
HCC Advances Students’ Education and Our Workforce

As a regional leader in higher education, workforce development, and community engagement, Housatonic Community College offers cutting-edge programs in science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics and other disciplines that address the ever-changing needs of students, employers, and society.

Our faculty and staff are dedicated to advancing their students’ future. They are in contact with the business and industry leaders in the community. They participate in regional and national conversations to keep current on developments in their field, then bring that knowledge into their classrooms so that students have cutting-edge education and training. As a result HCC students are well-equipped with skills that are in-demand.

Housatonic is a national Achieving the Dream institution, and recently was a finalist for the national Bellwether Award, which recognizes exemplary and effective programming. HCC offers associate degree programs in preparation for transfer to four-year institutions, as well as occupationally-oriented associate degree and certificate programs. Short-term, non-credit courses, seminars and workshops, as well as targeted student services help meet community and personal enrichment needs. The college also assists local businesses and institutions to train and update the skills of their workers.

The college is perpetually growing to meet the needs of our community. Our newly renovated Lafayette Hall includes a new welcome center, student services office, restored art studio and expanded library and science labs.

Our programming is expanding as well. To help address the global shortage of ophthalmic medical personnel and train students for in-demand careers, Housatonic Community College recently began offering an Ophthalmic Assistant Program. A new Pre-Nutrition program at HCC offers a path to becoming a Registered Dietitian or Nutritionist, and our new Paramedic Program provides advanced emergency medical care training.

HCC students can choose from over 60 associate degree or certificate options under the STEAM disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathmatics. Through active hands-on learning, students in these courses build ‘stackable credentials,’ whereby learning accumulates to build up their qualifications and support movement along educational goals and career paths.

HCC has exceptional support facilities to assist students outside the classroom. Tutoring, counseling and advising, are all available at no cost. The Family Economic Security Program can help students with financial literacy, coaching, and career advising. Help with scholarships and referrals to outside resources enable students to balance college and life.
